The idea behind the mark

The ghost beneath the letter

A pentimento is a trace of an earlier idea hidden beneath a finished painting — the artist changed their mind and painted over it. Under Leonardo's 'Virgin of the Rocks,' infrared scans revealed an entirely different first composition. That's why the mark is the letter 'P,' beneath which an earlier, shifted version of itself shows through — the name itself, painted.

"The painter who has no doubts achieves little." — Leonardo da Vinci, Treatise on Painting

The vector is the same file everywhere — under ~1KB. The tile is the favicon; at small sizes the ghost dissolves into texture, the letter stays clear.

Rules

How it should live

Air around it. Leave clear space of at least half the letter's height on every side.
The colors are fixed. Gold #d4a24c on canvas #0c0b0f; ink only on light backgrounds.
Don't stretch, tilt, or add a shadow or outline to the letter.
Don't recolor or remove the ghost — it is the point.
